The Daugai sculpture was built in 1979, at the initiative of Algimantas Zubavičius, who was friends with Professor Česlov Kudaba and received the old Daugai coat of arms from him. The idea arose to depict the legend in some way. Daugai forester V. Šerpenskas chose an oak tree, and Romas Klimavičius, a talented sculptor now living in Klaipėda, set to work and carved a Daugai sculpture.
